Shortcuts
Cmd below means Cmd on macOS and Ctrl on Windows and Linux. Text fields keep the platform’s normal editing shortcuts.
Global
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Command palette | Cmd + K |
| Preferences | Cmd + , |
| New window | Cmd + N |
| Close window | Cmd + W |
| Toggle the app window (system-wide) | CmdOrCtrl + Shift + O by default |
The system-wide shortcut is registered by the application, not by the operating system, and can be changed or disabled in Settings → General. If registration fails — another application already owns the combination — the setting reports it and the shortcut stays off.
Repository
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Open repository | Cmd + O |
| Quick open a file | Cmd + P |
| Go to the workbench | Cmd + Shift + G |
| Search files | Cmd + Shift + F |
| Next / previous repository tab | Ctrl + Tab / Ctrl + Shift + Tab |
Workbench tabs
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Files | Cmd + 1 |
| Changes | Cmd + 2 |
| History | Cmd + 3 |
| Branches | Cmd + 4 |
| Stashes | Cmd + 5 |
Changes and commit
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Stage or unstage the selection | Space |
| Discard the selection | Backspace or Delete |
| Commit the staged changes | Cmd + Enter |
| Find inside the diff | Cmd + F |
| Close the find bar | Esc |
Discarding asks for confirmation and writes a recovery snapshot first. Space on a file row stages the whole file; inside the diff it stages the selected hunk or lines.
Sync
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Push | Cmd + Shift + P |
Fetch and pull have no default shortcut; both are buttons in the sync bar and entries in the command palette.
Files
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Copy / cut / paste a file | Cmd + C / Cmd + X / Cmd + V |
| Delete a file | Delete or Backspace |
| Next / previous file in a search result | Down / Up, then Enter |
The command palette
Cmd + K lists every action the current context offers, grouped as Recent, Repository, Git, Branch, Stash, View, AI and Preferences. Typing filters by name; Enter runs the highlighted command. Commands that need a repository are absent, not disabled, when no repository is open.
The palette is the discoverable surface for actions that have no shortcut: fetch tags, pull LFS, open the recovery centre, run the repository health check, switch theme, change language.
Changing shortcuts
Only the system-wide shortcut is user-editable. In-app shortcuts are fixed so that documentation, the palette hints and the settings grid always agree. If a key conflicts with an input field, the field wins while it has focus.
